.mw registrar
based in Malawi,

Many of you have asked about how you, as a registrar for .mw domains, can monitor domain
transitions such as domain expiry dates.

As you may already be aware, the registry only sends e-mail to contacts for domains.

However, the registry also provides poll messages for registrars which you, as a registrar,
can pick up from the registry online at any time using the EPP poll command, here is how:

Once you have successfully done an EPP login, such as using fred-client then you can run
the command

>poll req

This will display the latest message on the queue that the registry has left in your registrar
account and it will look like this:

Queue size: 3
Message ID: 116715
Message date: 2020-06-15T14:07:19+02:00
Message type: trnData xmlns=http://www.nic.cz/xml/epp/domain-1.4
Message content:
                          name: domain.mw
                          trDate: 2020-06-15
                          clID: REGISTRAR-REG

This shows the size of the queue for your poll messages, the ID for the current message, the
date of the latest domain transition, the registrar etc. In the message above "trDate" refers to
a "domain transfer" for this domain.

To read the next message you must first "acknowledge" this meesage which then deletes it
from the que as follows:

>poll ack 3

and the result is:

> poll ack 116715
The message has been removed from the queue.
Queue size: 2
Message ID: 116716
Message content:

showing that the queue size has been reduced by one and providing the next message ID
and you can proceed to read the next message.

Our .mw registry is now configured to produce poll and other messages automatically using a
cron job and we would like to encourage you to monitor and collect the poll messages
regularly to be able to check your domains as they transition through various states such as
creation, renewal, expiry, contact updates, DNS updates, ..., etc.

In this way you can stay ahead of your clients and be able to provide the clients with better
service such as invoice them in good time before a domain expires or before it is
disconnected for none payment.

As you may already know, you can get help on any EPP command in fred-client after EPP
login by using the command

>help poll

Let me know if there is anything else to clarify.

Regards,

PC
