In Ghana, Kamuzu and his English mistress were thought of as man and wife; not as engaged in an illicit relationship. As an excerpt of a letter from a member of the Kojo Botsion family in Ghana to me indicates:

Quote
Dear Dr Nthenda
Etc etc
He and HE Kamuzu Banda were indeed very close and my grandmother Ruth if I recall mentioned staying with him and Madame Merene French whenever in London. So close were their relationship that my father was named Kojo Kamuzu Botsio and his sister Merene Botsio.
Unquote

Thus Kamuzu’s relationship to Madame Merene is commemorated and lives on for ever.

The Facebook article is fairly accurate, take out a line or two.
