KPD, 

Day schools were mixed. Boarding schools were mixed. There were girls in my class from from 1 to 4. BSS, Malosa, Mzuzu Government, Mzimba. Livingstonia. There were girls in my biology, chemistry, maths and English class in my freshman year. Law school it was an all male class (that does not prove any point: in the US there are more females graduating from law school than males).
