There is need to critically look at the number of parastatal companies that
Malawi has with a view to offload or consolidate some of them.

During Bingu days, when people were clapping hands for the construction of
a hotel by government, taxes were being used before they were collected.
Government was borrowing money from commercial banks at commercial bank
rate to pay  salaries against the projected tax collection.

So as we were cheering him, the country was literally swimming in debt. We
borrowed from anyone willing to give us money and we didn't care whether we
had the means to pay or not.

Some of the reasons are the creation and continuing to run parastatal which
are just parasites.
