Here is an excerpt from the MEC chairman, Justice Dr Chifundo Kachale's speech during a press conference held today at the National tally centre in Blantyre to give an update on preparation for elections on 23 June 2020.+++++++++++
Pre-inspection of polling materials

The Malawi Electoral Commission is reminding all candidatesand contesting political parties that there will be pre-inspection of pollingmaterials exercise in all polling stations on Monday, 22nd June,2020 from 8.00AM to 10.00AM.

All candidates and their political parties andCivil Society Organisations, that have been accredited are requested to sendtheir representatives and observers for the exercise in all polling stationsacross the country.

During the exercise presiding officers will openall boxes containing polling materials to ensure that the polling station hasthe right quantity and correct materials. The advantage of this process is thatif anything is discovered missing, in short supply or not in right order, theCommission shall have adequate time to come up with a remedy before start ofpolling on 23rd June, 2020.  

The Commission is advising that the exercise shallproceed in the absence of party representatives and observers if they are late.Those concerned should therefore keep time because after this stated period thePresiding Officers have other preparatory activities that cannot be delayed.
