I remember Cuthbert Kachale used to argue on this forum that Malawi’s poverty is man-made. 
Whereby young naturalists blamed nature for  - in their words - not having endowed Malawi with an abundance of marketable natural resources, Cuthbert maintained: “No, Malawi’s poverty is man-made.”
