It's difficult to join in. You are not debating on same variables. Heroes within national geographical sphere (e.g. fighters against a dictatorship within a country) cannot be compared with fighters on the international sphere (e.g. Europeans from Britain and Germany who fought in the most recent two major European Wars dubbed World War I and II).
You need to confine the definition of a hero to a country or national State; and then the debate makes sense.
