The Chief Justice is head of the bench (head of the judiciary, a bench of judges (bench because they used to sit on a bench in those old days when your forebears were eating each other’s ujeni)). 

The Attorney General is on the executive side of the government and is head of the bar (the AG has seniority when appears as an advocate in court). Where lawyers sit facing the bench in court used to be separated by a bar from the public gallery. A bar separating the lawyers from laymen like you! One has to be admitted to the bar (indeed by the Chief Justice) in order to be an advocate and appear in that space facing the bench of judges.

Actually the Solicitor General is a very senior position (the SG and the AG are called the law officers in commonwealth jurisdictions). In the US the Solicitor General is called the 10th associate justice (the SG appears as counsel on behalf of the government in all cases before the US Supreme Court, this is because they are supposed to play an impartial role helping the justices in arriving at a right decision). Before the present dispensation in Malawi the SG used to sit on occasions as a judge on the High Court (Kalaile did when he was Solicitor General in the 80s).
