The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is a regional economic
organisation of 16 Member States (Angola, Botswana, Union of Comoros, the
Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi,
Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, United Republic of
Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe) established in 1980.

To enhance communication and visibility of its policies, programmes and
activities, SADC Secretariat, is looking for an in-house Researcher -
Features Writer/Editor to support the Communication and Public Relations
Unit at the SADC Secretariat in developing well-researched, informative and
analytical articles highlighting the results, impact and relevance of SADC
programmes and intervention for publication in various platforms and media
outlets.

This assignment is part of project Provision of Communications and
Visibility Services to the SADC Secretariat  SADC/3/5/2/18 being implemented
by DEM-Seaton consortium.

Job Responsibilities

Working under the supervision of the Senior Officer-Communication and Public
Relations at the SADC Secretariat, the Researcher - Features Writer/Editor
will have the following responsibilities.

*	Interview sources, including Management and Project Staff of the
SADC Secretariat, key SADC Stakeholders, including International Cooperating
Partners (ICPs) and beneficiaries of SADC programmes to gain an in-depth
understanding of SADC policies, protocols, activities and programmes and
their impact
*	Analyse and extract relevant content from interviews, reports and
other relevant documents to come up with in-depth and analytical articles,
video scripts and other materials.
*	Review and edit articles submitted by Project Staff at the SADC
Secretariat to ensure that they adhere to basic communication principles
before publication on SADC Secretariat official platforms and external media
outlets
*	Develop content to communicate the contribution of the SADC-EU
partnership in promoting and enhancing regional integration and development

*	Research, identify and develop articles on key achievements of SADC
since its establishment in 1980.
*	Contribute articles to local and regional publications on a
bi-weekly basis, on a variety of topics related to SADC regional
integration, cooperation and socio-economic development
*	Assist to profile the role and contribution of SADC in uplifting the
lives of citizens of the region through well-researched and analytical
articles

Job Skills, Qualifications and Experience

*	At least a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Media Studies,
Communication, Development Studies, International Relations or any other
related field
*	At least three years of reporting for a reputable international and
regional media organisation
*	A good understanding and familiarity with international and SADC
regional development issues, concepts and policies
*	Ability to analyse and communicate complex development issues to a
wide range of audiences
*	Excellent interview and research skills
*	Excellent writing and editing skills for in-depth and analytical
feature articles
*	Proficiency in English language
*	Knowledge of French and Portuguese languages will be added advantage

Duration

*	This position will be available for a duration of one-year,with
possibility of extension depending on need, performance and availability of
funds.
