The problem with Mbeki is that he is too race-conscious. Race - and Blackness - sometimes blinds him. 
South African observers went into Zimbabwe to observe the 2002 elections and concluded that the elections were not free and fair. Mbeki used his presidential power to sit on the conclusion just to save the face of Mugabe; a fellow African brother. 
How irrational. How bizarre.
