I think the name malawi comes from maravi...
maravi itself having connotations of flames of fire on the savannah?

Nyasa is lake in Yao.I remained silent. The name Malawi came from Mangochi when the whites asked about the rising sun at the lake. The locals said Malawi meaning flames
