Yes, basebeli! Nyanja, nyanza, nyasa! The English got it wrong. When asked what is this body of water the indigenous said  Nyanja, nyasa nyanza - meaning lake. Nyasa was not its name - but what it was, a lake. Wa nyasa - it means people of the lake! Like wa taifa - in Swahili, the people of the state. In the west of Malawi are called ba Nyanja - people of the lake! Ba Nyanja to Zambians are all Malawians - people of the lake. To them there was no distinction between Tumbuka, Chewa, Chawa! All these were Chinyanja - language (s) of the people of the lake! The Chinyanja of Zambia is a mixture of Tumbuka and Chichewa! I was shocked that mayilo - in Tumbuka, yesterday - is tomorrow in Chinyanja of Zambia

Nyasa - means lake - in the northern earlier dialetes!
